Lime Putty Plastering
Lime and chalk in plaster and renders are a traditional method of building that is finding popularity in new build applications due to its sustainability properties and carbon footprint, compared to cement equivalent.
What is Lime Putty?
More properly known as calcium hydroxide, lime putty is used as the base material for a number of different applications in building construction. The process for creating lime putty involves the combination of lime chalk or limestone fragments with water to produce a variety of different products.
Lime putty or quicklime can be employed as a binding agent, a covering coat on a structure, or as one component in the creation of walkways or mosaics. It is also possibly to use lime putty as the base for a plastering technique. One advantage of a lime plaster is that the product is ideal for use in humid climates. Lime putty applied as a plaster will still allow the walls to absorb condensation and accelerate the evaporation of the damp.
